The Illusion Collection
These innovative sculptures have many facets to them that come through when viewed from different angles and in different lighting situations. We have called them the “Illusion” range because what is initially seen from one angle, changes as the viewer’s position changes; allowing for new details and features to be exposed to the viewer. From the frontal view, it appears as though the insert is floating in mid-air; from the side the sculpture appears solid. This “Illusion” alludes to life: what we see is not always what is, there are hidden complexities and nuances that reveal themselves depending on the perception of the viewer.
Maquette forms of most of the Life Size sculptures will also be available.
Technical Information
My new collection of works has been carefully chosen after spending over 10 years working in layered steel sculpture. My steel of choice for this body of work is stainless steel. It is a corrosion-resistant steel made up of iron, chromium and nickel. This amazing steel is completely and infinitely recyclable, with its’ actual recovery rate virtually 100%.
These sculptures can be placed in any outdoor environment and will require virtually no maintenance other than normal cleaning.
I work in two different types of stainless steel. The first one being industrial grade stainless steel (3CR12):
This is used for the more “rustic” look, where we patina the surface with a copper-rusty look. This will not continue to rust; and will remain looking as is.
The other stainless steel is marine grade stainless steel (316):
This has a polished silver look. All my polished stainless steel sculptures are made of the highest quality marine grade stainless steel. This offers vastly superior corrosion resistance; and if kept clean will remain shiny forever.
